2027 plan transition
Is your Medicare Advantage plan ending in 2027?
If a letter says your plan will not be offered in 2027, read it closely before choosing your next coverage. A plan nonrenewal is different from an ordinary change to a continuing plan's benefits. A national headline, a changed plan name, or a missing search result alone cannot establish what will happen to your coverage.
Check which notice you received
- Plan Non-renewal Notice: Medicare describes this as a notice that a Medicare Advantage plan is leaving the Medicare program and that you need to look for new coverage for the upcoming year. Check the plan name, contract and plan ID, the effective date, and the instructions in your own notice. See Medicare's guide to plan mailings.
- Annual Notice of Change: This describes changes to costs or benefits for the next year in a plan that continues. A higher copay or changed benefit is not, by itself, a nonrenewal. See Medicare's Annual Notice of Change guide and our 2027 plan-change checklist.
If the notice is unclear or you have not received one, contact your plan using the number on your member card or call 1-800-MEDICARE. Ask whether your exact plan and service area continue in 2027. Keep the written notice for reference.
What to do if your plan is not renewed
- Confirm the reason and date. Medicare lists different Special Enrollment Period rules for a contract that ends during the year and a contract that is not renewed for the next year. Your notice and Medicare can help you identify which applies; do not assume the dates are the same.
- Review your coverage options. Medicare says you may switch to another Medicare Advantage or drug plan in the applicable period. If you do not join another Medicare Advantage plan before your current plan ends, Medicare says you will be enrolled in Original Medicare. Check prescription drug coverage and any other coverage you may need before making a decision.
- Compare exact plans and enroll through an official path. Use Medicare Plan Finder to review available plans and enrollment information. Medicare's Special Enrollment Period guide explains the rules, including the nonrenewal period. For free, impartial help, find your State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP).
If you are considering Original Medicare and a Medigap policy, ask Medicare or SHIP about the rights and deadlines that apply to your situation before dropping other coverage. This page cannot determine them for you.
Use our 2026-to-2027 plan transition check
Open the public comparison, choose your state and county, then select “My current 2026 plan” and its exact ID. The tool checks the published CMS crosswalk for a listed 2027 successor. If it cannot establish a successor, it says so; you can still browse supported 2027 county-listed alternatives by switching to “A known 2027 plan.” A crosswalk result does not confirm your personal notice, termination, eligibility at your address, or coverage.
The comparison covers supported non-SNP Medicare Advantage plans with Part D. It does not check your doctors, medications, pharmacies, or expected spending. Confirm those details with the plan and use Medicare Plan Finder for broader choices. See our sources and limitations.
